El escritor francés Hector Malot narra las desventuras de Perrine, una niña que pierde tempranamente a sus dos padres y que debe ir en búsqueda de su abuelo paterno, su único familiar vivo, quien no sabe de la existencia de su nieta.
La bondad y abnegación de Perrine lograrán transformar la vida de su abuelo, rico industrial de Maraurcut, favoreciendo la prosperidad de los trabajadores de su fábrica y el reencuentro de su familia.
